Teddy I am so sorry I couldn't be there but Thursdays are my son's football practice. I will have to wait until their season is over to start coming to the mixers.

Aloha, Hawaii's actors and filmmakers!

It has been brought to my attention that some of our actors are posting production secrets and personal attacks on HAN, Facebook, twitter etc. Social media sites, becoming ever more popular, can rebound upon the writers and on the site when posters publish negative statements or details about the production.
We may want all of our friends to know about our involvement with the local productions, but when deciding what to post in social media, be aware that those in charge of the productions may see your post and view it with alarm if it reveals trade secrets of the production. They depend on being able to build audience excitement with news tidbits about the stars, shooting details, production schedules, etc. If we steal their thunder, we cost them money as well as break their trust in us as professionals who should stay mum, whether or not we signed a nondisclosure agreement. If we want productions to come to Hawaii, we should aim for a high degree of professionalism.
Also keep in mind that when you post negative things about other people on HAN or anywhere else, your comments may show on a web search of Google, Bing and/or ask.com with your name attached. A good rule of thumb is never post when you are angry or upset. Also, review your post as if you are a critical stranger. Ask yourself if, when read with a negative tone of voice by people who don't know you, the words could be taken as a criticism, a rant, an attack, or worse. We can all follow the example seen in so often in formal interviews with Hollywood stars; they are very humble about themselves and very quick to compliment co-stars, crew and other staffers.
Even I have to take a deep breath when I'm upset. I have to think about what I want to say and how I want to say it before I post on HAN. Please help me to make HAN a positive and professional forum that is viewed with high regard by casting directors and film producers. Let's all display professional behavior at all times and respect the intellectual property rights of all of our local productions.

Alan & Morag...that sound great! Everybody wins. The actors get to use/pratice their skills and the writers get to see how what they're writing about comes across. Whenever a writer needs and actor to do a reading for them, they could contact them via this website.

Crash/Alan,
I write novels and must admit to not knowing much about writing screen plays. When writing I must be every character. They must have their own nuances so the reader is aware of who they are w/o necessarily making it clear who is talking/making action. To be three demensional instead of cardboard cut-out characters motivations, goals, and conflict must be clear. I act everything out in my head before typing it on paper.
That said, it would be very interesting to see how an actor protrays one of my characters. After all, what novelist doesn't dream of having their books optioned for a movie:-)
