Mahalo Lisa!  I have been lobbying this bill for the past several months and have attended stratety meetings with Mayor Arakawa and his staff on Maui.  Recently, I spoke with Governor Abercrombie when he did a talk here (on Maui).  Communication from the constituents make a huge difference!  Thank you again for your message!

Hey all, I just called the Governor's office and asked for an email requesting approval of SB318... Send your note...and you just need to tell him you want him to approve the bill. It's fast and easy and as Brenna says, if we all say something - we'll make quite an impact. Send email to governor.abercrombie@hawaii.gov Okay! Mahalo everyone!

Mahalo, Gary!  If the other 5000 or so members of HAN will also write to our Governor in support of the film industry in Hawaii we CAN make a difference.

My source confirmed that Puerto Rico did raise their tax incentive to 45% to keep "The River".  Yes, that takes it AWAY from Hawaii all you actor's out there!  Please write your Governor!  BE PROACTIVE...not only for yourself, but for others and for our econonmy!

The following is my letter of support I sent to Governor...time to send yours

 

Governor Abercrombie,

Please accept this note in the ongoing support of SB 318, which would provide increased tax incentives to our local film industry.  As you know, and unlike many special interests, the Hawaii film (and TV) industry is one of Hawaii's strongest promotional tools, and the exposure it provides is much more valuable than the money spent by HVCB.  Simply put, more money will come back to the State than the State will provide in incentives.
In the meantime, other popular, and exotic filming locations are beating us out because of their more generous tax incentives.  We understand the mood of the legislature, but please support this net-gain tax incentive program and help see our film industry continue to grow.

A huge Mahalo to Branscombe,Louis,The Wells Brothers,and all the support that was submitted on behalf of the community of Maui and Oahu. We aren't giving up. It's only just begun.There will still be projects filming regardless, this Bill has just brought another industry into the picture,no pun intended, for Hawaii to be open to a more diverse economic strategy. The movement is in place,and there are enough people involved in the Industry or want to be,to keep this alive. Rome wasn't built overnight, and to make a solid foundation for this industry takes time. It's far from being over. We're still pushing ahead. Again, Mahalo to Branscombe, and all that made it to the last legsilative meeting. There are still projects in the works to shoot here in Hawaii.Let's keep Hawaii 50 in our thoughts of more succesful seasons,and actor's practice,practice,practice. We want to see more local actor's from Hawaii in there.

thank you for everyone's efforts to date.
Hawaii's Legislature runs on a biennial system, however. Unless I don't understand things all that well with committees and floor votes and such, it may be this could be resurrected in this or the following session.

SB318 Was voted down & Senator do NOT want to bring it to a floor vote because they do not want to go against their committees !
