A one-hour pilot for a drama about the fugitive crew of a nuclear submarine will be shot in Hawaii for ABC, the network announced Friday.

“Last Resort,” written by Karl Gajdusek and Shawn Ryan, will be produced by Sony Studios, which confirmed the location. Ryan will also serve as the executive producer. Neither the cast nor a start date have been set, according to a Sony spokesperson.

ABC described the pilot as an “international action thriller/soap” about a world being held hostage by the crew of a ballistic missile submarine. Martin Campbell, who directed “Casino Royale” in 2006 and last summer’s “Green Lantern,” will direct the pilot, Sony said.

There are no guarantees that the pilot will end up on television; many pilots go unseen. But if it did, it would be the latest of a string of ABC shows to use Hawaii: “Lost,” which ran from 2004-2010, “Off the Map,” which ran for a single season last year, and a new series that will debut next month called “The River.”

Ryan was the creator of the dark FX police drama “The Shield.”

You know what will happen.  The entire principal cast will be L.A. talent and we local actors will have to do with the scraps of background roles and the occasional small speaking roles.  Would love to see a series come here and actually cast some of us in principal roles.

Maybe when Hell freezes over!

Oh wow, produced by Shawn Ryan. I LOVED The Shield and Chicago Code.

Yea, that will be nice of them to came here and cast some of us the local talent for principal roles!!... Oh! if they just open their eyes and see the good talent in Hawaii,  how lovely that would be.. and we all live happily ever after!!
