"The River," an ABC television show described as an adventure-mystery set in the Amazon jungle, is relocating production to Hawaii, network representatives said.

The pilot for the show, which stars Bruce Greenwood as a wildlife expert and TV host who goes missing, was shot in Puerto Rico, but plans to move to Hawaii had been rumored in March. Network spokeswoman Erin Felentzer confirmed the move today, adding that shooting will begin in August with the series premiere scheduled for midseason.

"The River" stars Greenwood as Dr. Emmet Cole, who travels the world to film a popular nature television show. He goes missing in the Amazon, and his family, friends and crew set out to find him. "The shocking truth about his disappearance is out there, somewhere, just waiting to be discovered," says a statement released by Felentzer.

The show co-stars Joe Anderson as Cole's son, Lincoln, who has a strained relationship with his father, and Leslie Hope as Cole's wife Tess, who convinces Lincoln to join the search. Paul Blackthorne, Eloise Mumford and Daniel Zacapa star as Cole's filmmaking crew who are recording the search, and Thomas Kretschmann is the group's bodyguard.

The show's executive producers are Michael Green, Oren Peli (creator of "Paranormal Activity"), Zack Estrin, Jason Blum and Steven Schneider.

Felentzer said the show will use the same stage settings as "Off the Map," the ABC medical drama that was canceled after one season.

"The River" joins "Hawaii Five-0" as the two television series shooting here.

Netflix, already in talks with 20th Century Fox TV about possibly picking up the recently canceled Fox series "Terra Nova", may also be eying another freshman drama facing cancellation: ABC’s "The River".

The River is #29 in the top 50 TV shows right now.

Not sure if this means it will be greenlit for more episodes or not.

But, let's hope so.
