Payne's 'The Descendants' wins
The Associated Press « GoShare Fans of "The Descendants," how about that best-picture drama win at the Golden Globes?
Wish Omaha director-screenwriter Alexander Payne had gotten more microphone time to talk about his movie Sunday night, but he was classy about what he did get to say, saluting the people of Hawaii and Kaui Hart Hemmings, who wrote the novel on which the movie was based.
The win undoubtedly boosts the best-pic chances of "The Descendants" on Academy Award night Feb. 26.
Sure, it would have been even nicer if Payne's movie had swept all five categories it was nominated in at the Golden Globes on Sunday.
But, hey, it won not only best drama but also a best actor-drama trophy for George Clooney. The win makes Clooney the instant favorite for the Academy Award. His salute to Payne for making "wonderful films" was notable.
